Verne and Nebius Partner to Deploy 10MW AI GPU Cluster in Iceland
Verne, a Nordic data center operator specializing in high-performance computing (HPC) powered entirely by renewable energy, has announced a partnership with AI technology provider Nebius. As part of the agreement, Nebius will colocate a 10MW NVIDIA H200 GPU cluster at Verne Iceland’s data center campus. This marks the largest deployment in Verne Iceland’s history.
Expanding AI Infrastructure with Sustainability in Focus
This collaboration is a key step in Nebius’ broader strategy to expand its AI infrastructure across Europe and the U.S. The company aims to provide scalable, energy-efficient solutions for AI workloads that require extensive computational power. Verne’s Icelandic data center, located on a former NATO site, operates solely on Iceland’s renewable hydroelectric and geothermal energy, ensuring minimal environmental impact.
Nebius selected Verne due to its expertise, operational reliability, and ability to meet stringent geographic and technological requirements. As a leading provider of GPU capacity in Europe, Nebius is committed to integrating cutting-edge AI infrastructure with sustainable power sources, addressing the growing demand for AI computing while prioritizing environmental responsibility.
Leadership Perspectives on the Partnership
Verne CEO Dominic Ward highlighted this partnership as a significant milestone in delivering large-scale AI data center solutions with a sustainable approach. He emphasized how Verne’s scalable infrastructure aligns with Nebius’ full-stack AI infrastructure needs, leveraging Iceland’s renewable energy resources to support AI expansion while reducing carbon emissions.
Nebius co-founder and Chief Product & Infrastructure Officer Andrey Korolenko described Verne as a natural choice for the company’s AI deployments. He cited Verne’s technical expertise, flexible deployment models, and streamlined operations as key factors in the decision. This collaboration will accelerate Nebius’ ability to provide full-stack AI-native infrastructure to developers and enterprises worldwide, strengthening its cloud services and expanding access to AI computing power.
